Sue Thorne (née Dollar)-Biography

In 2005 I completed my DPhil at the Numerical Analysis Group, Oxford University: Iterative linear algebra for constrained optimization. My DPhil supervisor was Andy Wathen.

I spent six months at Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in 2004 as a Marie Curie Research Fellow. During this time, I was supervised by Wil Schilders.

After completing my DPhil I spent eight months at the University of Reading as a Temporary Lecturer in Applied Mathematics.

At the beginning of June 2006 I joined the Numerical Analysis Group at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. My research interests are primarily in numerical linear algebra, iterative methods and preconditioning.

Prizes

First prize in the Ninth Copper Mountain Conference on Iterative Methods Student Paper Competition, April 2006

Second prize in the Seventh IMACS International Symposium on Iterative Methods in Scientific Computing Student Paper Competition, May 2005

Other

In my spare time I enjoy various crafts. I also help my brother Adrian with various jobs - growing up on a farm comes in useful at times!
