Annual Statement of finances ----------------------------- The balance at the start of the accounting period 1/11/98 was 242.51 pounds. SIAM gave us 2500 US dollars (two cheques; $750 on 2/12/98 and $1750 on 11/5/99) which is the only income to the UKIESIAM account. This was 1532.06 pounds after conversion. The basic cost of holding the annual meeting at Imperial College in January was 1275.69 pounds (37.00 postage cost; 1238.69 pounds to Imperial College). This cost was recovered by charging the 52 paying participants 25 pounds per head, giving a small surplus of 24.31 pounds. The other outgoings were: 84.80 pounds traveling expenses for Chris Budd (speaker at the 1999 Annual meeting) 27.40 pounds traveling expenses for Charlie Elliott (speaker at the 1999 Annual meeting) 49.10 pounds traveling expenses for Colin Please (speaker at the 1999 Annual meeting) 61.90 pounds traveling expenses for David Silvester (organized the 1999 Annual Meeting) 202.26 pounds accomodation and traveling expenses for Martin Stynes (speaker at the 1999 Annual meeting) 211.50 pounds accomodation for Gil Strang (speaker at the 1999 Annual meeting) 300.00 pounds to the University of Bath, covering expenses for SIAM sponsored speakers at the 1999 British Applied Maths Colloquium We also awarded seven student travel grants of 100 pounds to postgraduate students (all current members of SIAM) attending the fourth International Congress on industrial and Applied Mathematics in Edinburgh in July. The end of year balance is thus 161.92 pounds. ----------------------------- The section has requested additional funding of $2500 to cover our expenses for the 99/00 financial year.
