Report on UKIESIAM Activities (August 2005 to July 2006) --------------------------------------------------------- Background. The United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland section of SIAM was established at the end of 1996. (The petition was approved by the council on 13th December, 1996.) This year saw an election for the post of Secretary/Treasurer. Stephen Langdon (Reading) was elected unopposed. The current officers are: President: N. Trefethen (until 31/3/07) Vice-President: J. Hogan (until 31/3/07) Secretary/Treasurer: S. Langdon (until 31/3/08) All SIAM members resident in the UK and Republic of Ireland are automatically members of the section (no section fees are levied). The current membership stands at 350 (versus 187 members when founded and 320 last year). Sponsored meetings. The section has provided financial support for the following meetings, which are listed in chronological order. The section sponsored 4 prizes for the best presentations by a Ph.D. student. Five prizes were awarded, with the balance being provided from BAMC funds.
