In 2005 I completed my DPhil at the Numerical Analysis Group, Oxford University: Iterative linear algebra for constrained optimization. My DPhil supervisor was Andy Wathen.
I spent six months at Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in 2004 as a Marie Curie Research Fellow. During this time, I was supervised by Wil Schilders.
After completing my DPhil I spent eight months at the University of Reading as a Temporary Lecturer in Applied Mathematics.
At the beginning of June 2006, I joined the Numerical Analysis Group at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. My research interests are primarily in numerical linear algebra, iterative methods and preconditioning.
In October 2009, I got married and changed my surname from Dollar to Thorne.
My daughter, Jessica, was born in December 2011: I was on maternity leave for the period November 2011 - September 2012. My second child is due in February 2014: I will be on maternity leave for the period February - December 2014.
